Adding an SPF Record

Posted by Shaka Zulu, Last modified by Shaka Zulu on 12 December 2013 01:56 PM

When you set up your organisation's email you have to add MX records to your domain names servers (DNS). An MX record looks like this: Mail (MX) Default 10 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.

So in this case email has been set up to be sent from Google Mail. Your MX records could be anything, it doesn't matter. So the issue is when sending mail from our platform we need to tell the Internet that this is not SPAM and the email coming from our platform is legitimate.

How do you do this?

Simple. Go to your DNS management software (ask your tech support person if you have one) and add in a Text (TXT) lined with the following and don't forget to add the quotes "":

"v=spf1 ip4: -all"

If you already have an SPF record then simply add:

into the record.

That's it!
